TXHES Looks Ahead to TAAHP Conference 2026
TXHES looks ahead to the TAAHP Conference 2026, outlining its priorities for collaboration, advising innovation, and a statewide conversation on improving the health professions admissions cycle.

This fall, the Joint Admission Medical Program (JAMP), in partnership with OnlineMedEd, hosted a five-part Student Success Seminar Series designed to address key challenges JAMP Scholars face. Guided by feedback from quantitative and qualitative data, JAMP developed the seminar topics to support scholars holistically—academically and personally.
The series began with Kick-Off: Whole Scholar Wellness, where scholars explored the intersection of personal growth and academic success. One scholar noted that a key takeaway was the importance of self-care, stating, “Hammering in the idea that self-care is important to productivity.” In the Time Management for Busy Scholars session, participants learned practical tools like time blocking and the Eisenhower Matrix. One scholar shared, “I used the Eisenhower Matrix immediately; it made things simple and helped me not feel overwhelmed.” Another added, “Time blocking was a useful tool I hadn’t really heard of before, and I’m applying it to real life.”
In Mindfulness and Meditation for Scholar Success, students learned techniques to manage stress and improve focus. One scholar appreciated the hands-on approach: “I liked the engagement and practicing the techniques—it’s something I want to see more of.” Another noted, “The deep breath reset exercise helped me realize I rarely stop to think about how I’m feeling.”
Mindfulness for Exam Performance focused on strategies to manage exam anxiety.
A scholar reflected, “Learning new strategies to overcome stress and anxious feelings before exams is valuable to me, especially as I face more exams in my career.”
The series concluded with Self-Care and Personal Wellness, emphasizing the importance of balancing productivity with well-being. One scholar
shared, “Realizing it’s okay to take a break from work despite social pressures was
impactful.”
The seminar series empowered JAMP Scholars by providing practical strategies for academic
success, stress management, and personal growth. By fostering resilience, focus, and
self-care, these sessions reinforce JAMP’s commitment to serving each scholar holistically,
equipping them with tools they need to thrive on their journey to medical school.
As one student put it, “Thank you for going over these topics! I’ve been trying to
implement the meditation daily, and it’s made a difference.”
JAMP continues to develop impactful resources that support scholars both academically and personally, ensuring they are well-prepared for their future roles as physicians.
